The monument is in the centre of a road junction in the village of Caerwent. It takes the form of an obelisk atop a plinth, all surrounded by metal railings. On the top of the obelisk is what appears to be a lamp. On it are recorded 18 names from the First World War and a further 8 from the Second World War. 2 of the names from the First World War appear to have been added at a later date than the rest.

Eleven of the names from the First World War are also commemorated on a brass tablet in the church nearby.

BAKER	Thomas	Stoker, HMS Caesar. Son of J. and I. Baker, of New Cottages, Caerwent, Chepstow, Mon, died 14th October 1918 aged 28. Buried at Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery.
BENNETT	Norman	Private, Welsh Regiment. Son of Rosa Bennett, of Museum Cottage, Caerwent, Chepstow, Mon., and the late Frederick Bennett. Died 25th September 1915 aged 23. Also commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
CROPPER	John	Captain, Royal Army Medical Corps. Son of Edward and Theodosia Cropper, of Fearnhead, Great Crosby; husband of Anne E. Cropper, of Mount Ballan, Chepstow, Mon. Died 21st November 1916, aged 51. Also commemorated on the Mikra Memorial, which is situated approximately 8 kilometres south of Thessaloniki,
CROPPER	Thomas Andrew	2nd Lieut, "D" Bty. 75th Bde., Royal Field Artillery. Son of Anne Ellen and the late Capt. John Cropper (R.A.M.C.), M.D., J.P., of Mount Ballan, Chepstow, Mon. Died 19th April 1918, aged 19. Buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt.
DAVIES	Arthur Harold	Private, Royal Naval Division (Royal Marines). Son of Joseph and Rachel Davies, of Fir Tree Cottage, Crick, nr. Chepstow, Mon. Died 3rd December 1918 aged 21. Buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.
GARDENER	Frederick	Stoker 1st Class, Royal Fleet Reserve. Son of Henry and Mary Gardener; husband of Rosa Elenor Gardener, of Rose Cottage, Crick, Chepstow, Mon. Died 4th June 1915 aged 38. also commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
JONES, MM	Joseph	Private G/53473, 1st/8th (T.F.) Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) formerly 6381, 8th (Reserve) Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Died of severe thigh, forearm and neck wounds 31 August 1918. Aged 29. Born Barrow Gurney, Somerset, resident Cherry Orchard Farm, Five Lanes, enlisted Bridgend, Glamorganshire. Son of Frederick Richard Jones; husband of Caroline (nee Trotman) Jones, of Sea Mouth, St. Bride's Major, Bridgend, Glamorganshire, married 30 December 1916 in St Bride's Major; one child Elizabeth Caroline Jones born 10 April 1917. Awared the Military Medal (M.M.) for "Bravery in the Field". In the 1891 census he was aged 2, born barrow Gurney, Somerset, son of Frederick R and Elizabeth Jones, resident Farm House, Barrow Gurney, Bedminster, Somerset. In the 1901 census he was aged 12, born Barrow Gurney, Somerset, at school, son of Frederick R and Elizabeth A Jones, resident Bedminster Down, Bristol, Gloucestershire. In the 1911 census he was aged 22, born Barrow Gurney, Somerset, a servant, Waggoner, at Church Farm, Staunton near Coleford, Staunton, Gloucestershire. Attested 11 July 1916 at Bridgend, Head Cowman, single, aged 27 years 11 months, height 5 feet 5 inches, chest 32½-36 inches, religious denomination Church of England, married to Caroline of Seamouth Street, Brides Major, Bridgend, Glamorgan. Embarked Folkestone 14 March 1917 and disembarked at Boulogne the same day. Suffered shot wounds to the right knee and was admitted several times to hospital. Transferred to Middlesex Regiment 26 March 1918, proceeded to Front 27 March 1918, joined his battalion 31 March 1918. Buried in BAC-DU-SUD BRITISH CEMETERY, BAILLEULVAL, Pas de Calais, France. HARRIS	James Henry	Private 7763 , South Wales Borderers. Husband of Alice Maud Knight (formerly Harris), of "Hillside," St. Brides Netherwent. Died 14th October 1916. Buried at St Brides Netherwent Churchyard, Caerwent, Monmouthshire.
HARRIS	Wilfred	Rifleman, Monmouthshire Regiment. Son of Henry and Margaret Harris, of Carron Hill, St. Brides. Died 25th March 1917. Buried at St Brides Netherwent Churchyard, Caerwent, Monmouthshire.
LEWIS	William	Private, Lincolnshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lewis, of Llanmellin Cottages, Caerwent, Chepstow, Mon. Died 27th May 1918 aged 19. Also commemorated on the Soissons Memorial, approximately 100km north-east of Paris.
MORGAN	W	Corporal, South Wales Borderers. No further information available at present. The CWGC does not list any W Morgan as a Corporal in the SWB, and none of the W Morgan other ranks appear to have any connection with Caerwent.
PEACH	Henry	Private 22930, Welsh Regiment. Died 9th May 1915. Also commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, between Bethune and Armentieres, France.
THOMAS	William [Henry]	Guardsman 1373, 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. Killed in action 16th September 1916. Born Caldicott, Mon., enlisted Newport. No known grave. Also commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme. France. Pier and Face 7 D.
WHEELER	Robert james	Private, South Wales Borderers. Son of Arm and the late Richard George Wheeler, of The Cross, Caerwent, Chepstow, Mon. Died 25th July 1916 aged 21. Buried at St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.
WHEELER	Ronald David	Private, South Wales Borderers. On the tablet in the church, and on the CWGC site, Ronald Wheeler is listed as a Lance-Sarjeant and shown as being in receipt of the Military Medal. There is no other R D Wheeler in the SWB, so we do not know why he is listed as a private on the memorial or why there is no mention of his decoration. Husband of Emily Elizabeth Wheeler of Wyndcliffe View, Shirenewton, Mon. Died between 10th and 15th April 1918 aged 25. Also commemorated on the Ploogsteert Memorial, Belgium.
WOOD	John	Private 39962, 12th Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Killed in action 25th November 1917. Born Leek, Staffordshire, enlisted Chepstow, Mon., resident Stoke-on-Trent. Formerly 4459, Monmouthshire Regiment. Also commemorated on Cambrai Memorial, Louveral, Nord, France. Panel 5.
HUMPHRIES	George Alfred	Private 266771, 1/6th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Killed in action 15th November 1917. Born Caerwent, enlisted Chepstow. Formerly 3907, 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment. Buried at White House Cemetery, St Jean-les-Ypres. See also Sudbrook
WILLIAMS	Alband Leonard	Private 139940, 38th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Died of wounds 9th September 1918. Born St Brides Well, Mon., enlisted Barry, resident Newport. BARTLE	Charles Mayo	Sergeant, RAF. Son of Edna M. Bartle, of Caerwent. Died 6th December 1944 aged 19. Buried in the churchyard of St Stephen's Church, Caerwent. Around 100 yards from the memorial.
CHAPPELL	Trevor S	Gunner, Royal Artillery. (Listed on CWGC as Lance-Bombadier.) Son of Bertie George and Elizabeth Chappell, of Portskeweth, Monmouthshire. Died 29th May 1941 aged 29. Also commemorated on Face 2 of the Athens Memorial, Greece.
CROSBIE	William Francis	Pilot Officer, RAF. Son of Samuel Crosbie, and of Annie Crosbie, of Caerwent, Monmouthshire. Died 15th May 1944 aged 29. Buried in the Padua War Cemetery, Italy.
HARDING	Benjamin Morgan	Corporal, RAF. Son of Benjamin Rees Harding, and of Gertrude Harding, of Cefn-Fforest, Monmouthshire. Died 25th May 1940 aged 20. Buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
HILLIER	Vincent Roger	Private, South Wales Borderers. Son of Elizabeth Hillier, of Caerwent, Monmouthshire. Died 20th October 1944 aged 29. Buried at Geel War Cemetery, between Antwerp and Leuven, Belgium.
RASSMUSSEN	Edward Christian Carl	Flying Officer, RAF. (Listen on CWGC as Rasmussen). Son of John and Rose Hannah Rasmussen; husband of Bettina Beatrice Rasmussen, of Leeds, Yorkshire. Died 11th January 1946 aged 26. Buried at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, 5 kilometres south west of Kleve, Germany.
ROWLANDS	Maurice Whybert	Lance-Corporal, South Wales Borderers. Son of Alfred and Ellen Rowlands, of Caerwent, Monmouthshire. Died 14th February 1942 aged 25. Buried at Delhi War Cemetery, India.
SPOONER	Charles	Lieutenant, South Wales Borderers. Probably Charles Emerson Spooner, Son of Reginald Thomas Spooner and Sarah Jane Spooner; husband of Margery Fay Spooner, of Newport, Monmouthshire. Died 28th June 1944 aged 30. Buried at Banneville-la-Campagne War Cemetery, between Caen and Pont L'Eveque, Normandy.
