              The
school was originally called "Lancasterian" School and was opened
in November 1813. It changed its name to incorporate Beaudesert
in 1844. The original buildings were demolished in 1958 and the
World War One War Memorial, designed by Paul Waterhouse in 1919,
was dismantled and stored in the works of Willis Dawson's in Vandyke
Road, then, for a period of time, it was relocated to the cemetery
in Vandyke Road (see picture below). Through the efforts
of some of the Old Boys of the school the memorial was restored,
at a cost of £7,000, and moved to a new home at the Royal
Legion headquarters in West Street, Leighton Buzzard (see
                picture left). The
move was celebrated with a re-dedication ceremony conducted by
the Vicar of Leighton Buzzard, the Rev. Grant Fellows, and respresentatives
of other denominations at the Royal British Legion Hall on 21st
                October 2004.
