War 1
World
War One was in many ways the first modern ‘total ‘
war, and it had far reaching implications for the army and civilians
alike. It called upon women both to maintain their domestic
and familial roles and to take on a variety of new roles in
the workplace, meaning many played a fundamental part in the
war effort. The war also uprooted millions of European civilians,
most of whom were innocent bystanders.

War 2
World
War Two saw many changes, the roles of men within industry were
filled by women, rationing was introduced, bombing of civilian
population became a norm.
